10% to start, 20% if I go to full time (apparently everyone starts out as a part-timer for the first three months).

Getting a new job (and getting a job somewhere that I really WANTED to work at) is the big news of the moment. I was actually online talking to David Renz when I got the call -- he was glad to be a part of the moment.

Congratulations! I'm a member there and love the co-op. The energy there is fantastic and the people are great!

That was big on my wish list -- working someplace with the kind of people that I might actually want to go out and have coffee with every once in a while. A surprisingly tall order, I've found.

Well, if I'm your checkout girl, be sure and say howdy (and be patient as I try to learn what codes for all of the produce).

I sure will...and as for going out to have coffee.....you can do that right there at the Co-Op!

Congrats
Congrats! Great way to start a new year.

It's been a while since i did the grocery store cashier thingy (the self checkout at the Waterfront Giant Eagle is cool and nostalgic), but aren't the codes on the produce (the little 4-digit sticky thingies), or doesn't the EEFC use UPC coding?

Re: Congrats
No such luck. At each cash register there is a list of the codes, and from what I understand, updating that system is on their list of things to do at some point in the future, but for now, someone hands you a bag of apples and you have to first of all correctly figured out what kind of apples they're handing you, and then look the number up on a list. Everyone I know who works there says that this pretty quickly becomes second nature -- that within a week or so, my brain will go "Organic Gala apples -- that's number 818" or whatever, but that for the first while, I'm gonna be a little slow.

And be sure to keep a lookout for those Wild Georges in your register! :-)

Yes, yes. The Co-op has renovated and remodeled and is all spiffy and shiny and new. And I always tease the customers who bring Whole Foods shopping bags with them.
