OK kids, it's time for some words of encouragement.

This smoking thing seems to have gotten away from me yet again. Two weeks of vacation, lots of drinking, hanging in places where I ALWAYS used to smoke ... one thing led to another, or who knows what, but there it is.

This week has been a bit better. Two days of no smoking, followed by one day of smoking just a little, followed by two days of ... yeah, it seems to be starting again.

How did I let myself fuck up again? How do I fix it?

Re: heroin or nicotine?
I often wondered that. How hard would it have been to give up the needle if everywhere I went I saw people shooting up, the way that everywhere I go I see people lighting up?

How am I doing? Well, let's see ...

I lost my underwear in the video store today.

Yup. You read that right. They called me when they found the bra. The panties are forever gone.

I was't sure if I wanted to laugh or cry. I laughed then; I suppose I'll cry now.

You'll quit when you're ready and not before
This is Alan, BTW. (I finally broke down and joined LJ. Haven't posted anything... yet, but I will when (if) my schedule settles down a bit.)

The bit about the underwear was way too much information. no further details required :-)

I smoked for 24 years, and it took a lot to get me to quit. Poverty was the deciding factor, and I couldn't afford to start smoking if I wanted to. Also, I have a lot of support. My mom quit (again) around the same time I did. Melody's being a non-smoker helps too. Going outside or in the basement's a pain in the ass (outside was a problem too since our bedroom window's over the porch). A lot of my side of the family are ex-smokers so I have a lot of support.

Have you tried nicotine replacement therapy? The patch helped take some of the edge off. Very weird dreams tho.

I may be mistaken, but didn't your dad smoke at some point? (before he met your mom, I think). Maybe he can give you some tips.

Have you checked out the CDC's tobacco page. It has some information on quitting smoking and some useful links.

Ultimately though, you have to really want to quit to stop smoking. Something is bound to come up that will eventually motivate you to kick the habit for good.

Good Luck!

Too much information for who?

Re: Too much information for who?
It really wasn't all that interssting -- just motifying as Hell. I went to the video store to return a movie and then I was going to go swimming. I already had on my swimsuit, so my bra and panties were in my bag. Well, I guess they must've fallen out when I pulled the tape out.

The store found and returned the bra to me (good fucking thing, as I only own two bras). The panties are gone forever, probably hanging on some frat boy's wall by now.
