antiochbitch is the shiznit

See how things work out? I was so sad and so depressed and then I went downstairs to head out to Quiet Storm, and what should be waiting in my mailbox but a little package from antiochbitch. I waited til I got to Quiet Storm to open my surprise: a mix tape! Oh, but it gets even better than that. Guess what song she included: "David Duchovny" by Bree Sharp! I can't tell you how much I've been wanting a copy of that song. I was going to fast forward straight to it, but have opted instead to get the whole flow and play it as taped. Of course, since I'm listening to it in the computer room, I'm hearing it all garbled and crackly through my little portable tape player, but hey - we can't all be Jim Isler.

She also sent me a five finger discounted Antioch Alumni sticker a little while ago, which arrived right on the heels of wackywallflower's letter (which included excerpts from Breakfast of Champions, one of my favorite books from high school).

So thank you, thank you, and thank you again, antiochbitch and wackywallflower. I trust you have received similar surprises in your mailboxes by now?

Oh, and can somebody explain to me when and why it changed from "CWSP" to "FWSP"?

CWSP vs FWSP
CWSP = College Work Study Program
FWSP = Federal Work Study Program

I think the change was made for several reasons;
1) The college wasn't actually putting any money into this program after a certain point, and leaving so it sounded like the funds were coming from Antioch not the Gov't led to people arguing for more funds, and it's easier to say 'The Gov't didn't give us any more' than trying to say the college didn't have the money.
2) The Feds were probably being dicks about things and wanted credit.
3) New administration - It's what I call 'New CM syndrome' but it happens to other offices at Antioch too. Someone new comes in a position and assumes that everything the people before them did was completely wrong and they reinvent the wheel and overturn everything. Sol did this when he moved into the housing office (imho) and I've seen CMs do this over and over.. and ok I did it when I moved in the Tech Resources office to some degree but I feel justified in that. So what I'm trying to say is that I think someone new came in the financial aid office and had to piss on their tree by changing the acronym.

For the record, I've been carrying your little monkey around in my pocket. I can't explain why, but it just feels so gosh darn wonderful to go up to someone and say "I've got a monkey in my pocket!" and then be able to prove it.

Re: CWSP vs FWSP
This happened as I came to Antioch (fall of 90). I was told it's because the Feds wanted credit. What was really funny was the co-editor of the Record (not jen besemer) had a "CWSP be cool" stick and he was bummed because now it had no alliteration.

I'm not saying that's why he disappeared later on into the quarter, I'm just saying I remember. Hee.

Doug Blanc.

He left campus in early January of 1991. He was very close with Jonathan Evans and he didn't want to be on campus when Jonathan's (January) birthday rolled around.

OK, so I just realized that today is antiochbitch's birthday. Now I think she's TWICE as cool, because she sent me a present on her birthday.
