Philadelphia, Day 3

Day 3 features a morning walk in the rain, a meal that isn't Chinese food, saying goodbye to aaronbenedict, and my night alone back in (you guessed it) Chinatown.

I found a lot of things on the floor in this hotel room. aaronbenedict suggested that I should photograph them. This controller only halfway counts, since it's something that was supposed to be there. I photographed it anyway since it was supposed to be on top of the TV, not crammed behind the dresser.

The condom, however, was a surprise. I was glad to find it was unused. I found it behind the bed, but left it in the nightstand, hoping that it will be put to good use. It was strawberry flavored. :)

I also found a man's shirt ...

... and a pair of socks.

The Sephardic Synagogue which was around the corner from our hotel. Apparently they've been there since 1741. Um, wow.

Back at the hotel

And back on the iPhone. :)

I love this picture.

The air freshener was so not his

I thought this was a beautiful old theater. I only realized later that this was the neighborhood where that tragedy happened a few weeks ago.

Tech Monkey

Holy Land Pizza

French fries!

Dancing at the table ...

... and then back on the iPhone.

Actually, he was using the phone to try to help me. Long story short: I was supposed to spend the night with ratphooey, but she and her entire family became very, very ill. So we were scrambling to find a place for me to stay before he headed back to New York.

My tech monkey. :)

A quick glimpse of a mural that I liked

Ah, Modelo. :)

We saw these billboards all over town.

Mr. Bar Stool again

The instrument panel of aaronbenedict's rental Prius.

My room at the Hilton Garden Inn Philadelphia Center City. Why did the exit sign point directly to my door? I have no idea.

Along with the Gideon Bible, the nightstand featured a copy of Conrad Hilton's Be My Guest. I didn't know it beforehand, but apparently every Hilton does this. I think it's nice. I like having something to read other than The Bible.

The scenic view from my hotel room.

The old Chinatown YMCA. Now it's The Chinese Cultural Center of Philadelphia.

Abacus Federal Savings Bank

Walking through Chinatown, feeling sad that aaronbenedict isn't there to walk with me

More Fu Lions. The female is the one closest to me. I wish I'd taken a detail photo of her cub.

Back at Singapore Kosher Vegetarian Restaurant

Q Jade, where I bought my mechanized Maneki Neko

Shanghai Bazaar

Chung May Market, where I bought several other Maneki Nekos

My second meal at Singapore Kosher Vegetarian: Rainbow "Chicken." Yum!

And, for dessert, vegan cheesecake from Kingdom of Vegetarians

You didn't find anything gross in the hotel room, but why wasn't it cleaned out properly before new guests?

I would have asked for a discount on the rate! ACK!

Well, it was in aaronbenedict's name, and paid for by his company, so that wouldn't have been up to me. But yea -- that room was full of surprises!

The spousage's father is a member of that synagogue. It hasn't been on that exact site since 17whatever, just in the city. They have a cemetery from that era several blocks away, right across the street from the hospital where #2 was born. Everything around it has long since been demolished and rebuilt; it's tucked into the middle of a block, behind a brick wall with gate.

So sorry our illness made things so complicated for you!

I read a little bit on their website about the cemetery. It seems it's open to tourists, but only during a very specific summer season (I believe it may open this week, actually).

And no worries re: the illness thing. I was mostly just bummed that I didn't get to spend time with you.
