Great news!

Guess what I found out when I went to see Rent today?

Xanadu is coming to Pittsburgh!!!

Who's coming with me?

Caveat: It's not until February. But I'm putting it in print: If I've moved away by then, I will come back.

Xanadu, baby!

How was Rent? There was some good local (Pgh-local) coverage, with video interviews and whatnot, on wpxi.com.

I've seen it enough times at this point that I could do a compare and contrast. Not my favorite Mimi (I knew what she was saying/singing because I've got the damn thing memorized, but a lot of her lines were impossible to understand. Mimi the mumbler). And Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal? I'm mixed on that. I kept thinking "how sick and tired must these guys be of this material?" Also, being the original cast members? Means that you're like forty now. Anthony Rapp? It's time for Rogaine, honey. You're looking a little thin on top. Which doesn't mean that they weren't talented and fantastic, because they were. I was sitting pretty close, so I could see stuff that folks in the balcony probably missed. Adam Pascal could pass (hey -- AIDS and heroin use/withdrawal can age a person), but Anthony Rapp? Your days of passing for 23 are behind you. Long, long behind you.

There was a third original cast member: Gwen Stewart. You might remember her as the woman with the pipes who does the solo in "Seasons of Love." Yea, her. She brought the house down. Twice. Oh, that voice! The biggest, most spontaneous applause. More than Angel in "Today for You, Tomorrow for Me." Seriously. Wow can that woman sing.

Ultimately, it's Rent. You can't go wrong with Rent. I pretty much cried the entire three hours, as per usual.

Oh, also, got a ticket for twenty bucks (they were going online for as high as $254, which I found alarming) from a guy in the lobby. Row B, which, including the seats in the pit, was about the tenth row. Best seats yet, and probably the cheapest (aside from the time my Grandma gave me a ticket for free. My Grandma, FWIW, never quite understood that Angel was a man).
