Burial plans.

Opie will be buried next Friday, April 24th, at 1:00 pm.

April 24th has already been ruined for me, so when the pet cemetery people suggested next Friday, I thought that would be the perfect date.

Ah, my. I looked back at those posts. I've known about four people, two of them extended family, and two friends who've died in car accidents. My own accident, just a year before yours, involved only myself and my own stupid car (it rolled back over me while I was pushing it). And you were so young at the time, with all those friends from such a place as Antioch. My best to you.

Sadly, I know about that many people who died while I was at Antioch.

Stacey was the first (car accident; over summer quarter, so most folks didn't find out about it until months later). John was next (the accident I was in). Then fall of 1990 was a disaster -- Belinda died (brain aneurysm, in a meeting, surrounded by like 20 of her frantic, freaked out friends), and Jonathan -- John's best friend and former roommate -- died something like a week later (car accident). 1991 was blissfully quiet, but, in early 1992, Mike died (still another car accident).

Maybe it was because we all traveled so much? Who knows. But by the time I graduated, the annual deaths had become somehow de rigueur.

Cars can be evil. I knew no one who died in a car accident when I was at University of Illinois, but hardly anyone had cars.

Every time I read that post about the accident, I start to cry. I don't want to say it's so "well written" - that's not the point of a tragedy - but, it is. That's why I think it makes me so emotional.
