Failblog fail.

I've recently been following the failblog_rss feed. For those not familiar, they basically post pictures of things that are effed up, and then the users (at http://failblog.org) vote as to whether it's a "fail" or a "win." 9 times out of 10, the posts are deemed "fail" (like, say, this one from yesterday, where a door marked "entrance" declares "do not enter"). But today I saw my very first "win."

http://syndicated.livejournal.com/failblog_rss/259977.html

It's a laundry tag, which reads:
100% COTTON
MACHINE WASH WARM, INSIDE OUT, WITH LIKE
COLORS. USE ONLY NON-CHLORINE BLEACH.
TUMBLE DRY MEDIUM. MEDIUM HOT IRON.
DO NOT IRON PRINT!
------------OR------------
GIVE IT TO YOUR WIFE
IT'S HER JOB

I'm not even making the "give it to your wife" line big for added emphasis -- that's really how it appears on the tag!

I'm pissed that that tag even exists. I'm pissed that someone thought wife = servant was har de har har funny enough to come up with that tag in the first place. And not only does that tag fucking exist, which is rage-worthy all by itself, but the effing douchebags over at Failblog have decided that this is the image that finally merits a "win." That's the image that made them say "no, that's pretty accurate -- that shouldn't be a "fail" -- it's a WIN!"

I thought getting married was about being someone's partner, not about being their effing laundress.

I'm dumping that feed from my friends page immediately.

(Oh, and I'm also probably x-posting this rage to feminist_rage)

Agreed on the post being shitty, erg.

On the other hand, I was really surprised at how witty some of the comments at failblog were. "Et Tu, Douche" is impressively crass and highbrow at the same time.

Sorry, I'm done, back to hating. Okay, so they decide whether or not it's a "win" before putting it up specifically as a "win," I assume?

Yea, you must be right. I always assumed that's what the thumbs up/thumbs down were about, except then how would it say either "FAIL" or "WIN" beforehand?

Whoever dubbed this a "win": YOU SUCK!

I found the tag a) offensive and b) ironic.

I refuse to do laundry. I hate it. I used to take my clothes to the Duds and Suds on Center and pay per pound to have someone else wash my clothes. Both of my husbands have been kind enough to take on laundry so I didn't have to do it. Since we're a partnership, we both take on jobs. Sometimes because it's a job that the other doesn't like doing.

Apparently I missed the "job" memo on wives and laundry.

I don't even have a washer and dryer here at my house. Long story. I kind of want them eventually, but I take care of the laundry at other places. It allows me to get some exercise.

Even though I'm a wife, I still don't think it's my job to do the laundry...but, I always get stuck with it.

hrmmm.

That is a shitty post.

My husband is the designated laundry-doer in the household. I should show him this tag and asks how he likes being my wife.

Are you really surprised Hope?

I'm almost certain failblog is largely inhabited by 4chan folks, as that's where the fail meme started. And 4chan is a cesspool of sexism and even racism.

Trawl around on encyclopedia dramatica for awhile, and you'll see what I mean.

I realize I should probably just google this, but ...

What's 4chan?

For bonus points:

There's actually something called "encyclopedia dramatica"? That's pretty funny. I'm guessing it's not about theater?

4chan is an imageboard originally set up by a 15 year old from the something awful forums. It's now become one of the most popular places on the internet, and the origin of various recent memes (including lolcats and rickrolling). It's also the source of the "anonymous" movement which is trying to take down Scientology.

Essentially though, it's full of angry, sexist, often racist guys varying in age from teenagers to 20-somethings. Trolls. They do it all for the lulz.
