Iraq War Blues.

Here, ladies and gentlemen (and those of you who fit neither description), is my annual posting of the link to that gigantic thing that I wrote up when I got arrested five years ago, on the day that the war started.

The idea that we're five years, $600 billion, 3,989 dead US soldiers and over 100,000 Iraqi civilians* into this war, with no signs of stopping, is ... well, let's just say that "disheartening" barely cuts through the icing on the cake, if you know what I mean.

Holy Cow it's been five years
Ron, Lea and I went to the Detroit Protest but that was in February the day that we moved to Windsor, Ontario. (At Kennedy Square where his parents met thirty some years before protesting Vietnam). I think it was a blatent misuse of judiciary powers to force everyone to plead guilty when you had every flipping right to be there. I don't want to get in that...just thinking about the fact that y'all got arrested for exercising your first amendment right...one of the rights the troops are quote on quote dying for...okay I feel the BP going up....

Hi Hopita...I "hit" one of your dollar bills on Where's George a couple months or so ago.

It's hard to believe it's been half a decade since this mess started. Five years ago I was in the midst of my final year of high school at a hell-hole in southern West Virginia, and the darkest time of my entire life. Nearly all my peers unequivocally supported the war...even though they couldn't and didn't provide any shred of rational explanation why. Most discourse was limited to that along the lines of "Oh, I just hate people that say they oppose the war; I could just wring their necks," I kid you not. It was all emotion; no logic. It felt bad enough just to mind my business while the events passed by: That people got arrested for engaging in peaceful, common-sense behavior just reinforced how discordant things had really become. Disheartening indeed...
