Have folks heard about this?

From the original post:

We are holding the Content Strike because we want to demonstrate that LiveJournal is content-driven.

We are holding the Content Strike because we want the new owners of LiveJournal to better understand the power and resolve of the LJ Community of Users.

We are holding the Content Strike because all of us, Paid, Permanent and Plus users as well as Basic, want to demonstrate our solidarity as a Community of Users. We do not consider Basic users to be freeloaders, we consider them to be valuable content-providers and Friends.

sabotabby says it better. She has better graphics, too.

I'm still confused as to whether or not it's for real, i.e. is LJ really guilty of those things and will not posting really do any good in the first place? I rarely post on Fridays anyway, so no biggie, but I'm curious.

I read a few posts promoting the strike, but I didn't see any actual information as to what prompted this or what LiveJournal did to provoke this. Can anybody tell me what happened?

Re: ?
I'm having a bit of trouble finding the original link, but here's the follow-up post at news. The gist: The new owners of LiveJournal (SUP, who bought it from Six Apart) are doing away with free, basic accounts (after a certain date -- the end of this month, maybe?). If you want a free account, your only option will be to have ads, like the plus accounts have now. I believe that this only applies to new members -- your account will remain the same, for example, but if you wanted to start another account, you would be stuck with the ads.

Well...what are your thoughts on it, Hope?
I use this for two reasons...One to Keep up on the life of Hope (If I send you an email I get a link to this...so I figure I better skip a step) and two I have been using it hash out some feelings (Ron doesn't know I have this too). The only reason I was upgrade was because of you and I am using a free account now. I'm still actually stuck in 1997 so...but I would feel guilty being Grandfathered in to anything. If you support the strike...I will just avoid LJ that day...just let me know.
