Library Blues.

Hello and greetings from the Squirrel Hill Branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. For those who missed my last voicepost (why, oh why, does it only transcribe them sometimes?), last night my cat Jacob threw my spare computer onto the floor, and now both of my computers are broken.

To say I feel much the same way that I felt when I wrote this entry is an understatement; when renewing my library card so I could log on to the system, the librarian asked me if I wanted to designate somebody else to handle my affairs in the event I was incapacitated. I asked him: this is a library, right, and not a medical facility? He said they took their patrons' information very seriously.

This computer keeps making noises like an airplane getting ready for takeoff, and it's making me nervous as hell. I really miss the way this library was before the remodel -- now it's very cold and industrial and I always feel like I don't really belong here. I miss the place with the sculptures outside and the big fish tank in the kids' section.

Thank you, librarian.net

I agree with you 500% - and not just for the "we used to make out" there nostalgia.

I miss the greenery that used to surround it. It used to offer a quiet-sh outside recluse from the hustle and bustle and noise of Squirrel Hill. Now, it just looks like steel and glass and the A/C is seldom felt in the heat of summer, since it gets sun a majority of the time.
