:/ So I guess that place on Craig must have already closed too, then? (I haven't really been to pgh long enough to notice anything different in about three years).

Caliban -- the place on Craig -- is still there. But (it was my understanding that) they're a used bookstore; Jay's was the last independent place to buy new books.

Ohhh. I didn't realize that there was that distinction.

I *still* haven't recovered from the loss of St. Elmo's on the South Side.

There's always the place I used to work for - it's a local business, not a chain bookstore. They sell new books in addition to remainders.

Bradley's Books - the best place to go if you want a special order is the lease location in Macy's downtown. 9th floor. If you don't see it on the shelf, you can always order it.

It isn't the coolest place, but it is a local company.

there are few sadder bits of news
(that don't involve people dying or getting injured) than the closing of an independent bookseller.

On the other hand, the article makes mention of a movie version of Mysteries of Pittsburgh.

Good news: Mena Suvari as Phlox. Bad news: The director's only other major film was Dodgeball. This should be interesting.

(Mind you, there's still balance in the universe: the Coen Brothers are set to do Yiddish Policeman's Union.)
