I have no witty subject line.

Here's me, trying to get information about getting a digital TV converter. I think today's the day it struck me that if I don't get one, come February I will have no more Saturday Night Live. Ack!

And on an unrelated note, I have no plans for New Years Eve (aside from working until 7:00 pm), and I would very much like to fix that. So somebody invite me somewhere -- please?

I think the having-to-work until 7:00 pm thing will make it too far. But thanks!

Thanks for the heads up..

I have survivor tier cable... 10 bucks a month..

no digital tv...

I am disturbed by the FCC currently...media ownership... consolidation... lack of local programmming...

hmmmm

Hope you have had a lovely holiday.

You're probably better off buying a Standard Definition Digital TV.

I'm working until Hashem-Knows-When on New Year's Eve. Hopefully, I'll walk out with money - unlike Christmas Eve

If this project is something that I have to spend more than $15 on, then I'm just going to opt out of television altogether. The times that I've been without TV, I've never missed it.

according to the link on your post, you still have a year. I looked online, and both converters and tv's are around $150

Are you kidding? This thing goes into effect in six weeks -- how do I have a year?

Either way it doesn't matter. $150 means, come February, I'll be kissing television goodbye.

Huh. The Channel 11 news lied.

Set top converters aren't even widely on the market. according to the government websites, the only thing that starts this year is the government $40 coupon program.

Did you read the information on the link you posted? It's not the first time Channel 11's been wrong. Don't sweat it.

Personally, I say fuck television and join a gym.

Because if I join a gym I can watch Saturday Night Live there?

lol

i was thinking that if you're going to have to drop money, it you might as well get something lasting out of it, like better health.

Just linking a few of your more recent posts in to one string of comments

Ah, OK. Well, thanks, but no thanks. I buy my annual pool pass and pay for classes at Schoolhouse Yoga; I'm not looking to try to cram anything else into my schedule just yet.

We are having a NYE thing
My door is open. I'm picking one person up in Squirrel Hill so I'll already be on the East End if you need a ride.

It's kind of a laid back NYE thing with lots of socializing and potentially board and video games (because we're old nerds).

Let me know if you'd like to come.

Digital Converter Update
Saw this on CNN's website;

http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/01/01/digital.tv.ap/index.html

They say converter boxes are expected to cost between $50 and $70, so with the Government coupon, you'd end up paying ~$20. I'd wait until you see one in a store or online before you apply for a coupon, since they're only good for 90 days (according to the link you originally posted).
