All of my heroes are dead.

Anyone who knows me or reads this journal knows that I don't get super involved in television. There are shows that I like, sure, but I usually work nights and so, aside from Saturday Night Live, most of my favorites don't get watched super-regularly. For bonus points I don't have cable, and I live in a city full of mountains, which means I don't get ABC and I barely get PBS.

Disclaimer firmly in place, I feel the need to rant about something that I saw on TV last night.

I like to watch dramas. The majority of dramas on network television these days are cop shows, lawyer shows -- you know -- your basic murder mysteries. Last night I was watching Criminal Minds, a show that I got into in no small part because of my love for one character: Garcia.

Penelope Garcia makes me happy every time I see her. She is something profoundly rare on network television: a gorgeous, smart, hip fat girl. She flirts (and is flirted) with Morgan. She can solve any computer issue in no time flat. She gets to wear the kind of hip, kicky clothes that make me want to go shopping. Her size is never a topic of discussion; she's not there for some sort of ABC Afterschool Special moment -- she just is.

And last night, at the end of the episode, they shot her.

If they kill off the hot, smart fat chick, I will so stop watching.

They shot Garcia? No way!

I'm betting she lives.

It was horrible.

She meets this guy in a coffee shop -- he's having laptop issues, she solves them, he gives her his card and offers dinner. Then she goes through this weird self-loathing fat-hating angst, talking to Morgan about how she's not the type of girl that men see across a crowded room and run over to hit on (a long winded euphemistic way of saying "news flash: I'm fat").

Morgan tells her to trust her instincts, but then a very convoluted conversation leads to an equally ridiculous fight where Garcia hangs up on Morgan, calls coffee shop guy, and makes a date.

The show ends at the end of said date. He says "I've been wanting to do this all evening." She thinks he's talking about a goodnight kiss; instead he pulls out a gun and shoots her in the chest.

Which is around the time that I started yelling at my television.

I don't get to watch prime time TV at all with my schedule. For example, tonight even with only two tables, I left at eleven, and I wasn't even a closer.

enough about me. I need to catch this show in syndication. She is definitely a reason to watch. My type 200% :))))

Seriously. I get sick of "supermodel" types. Take a look at TV mom's. How many skinny mothers do you know with "perky" breasts or have hourglass figures? Come on. I dig realism in tv shows.

A definite bad move for the network.
