Sad morning, tempered by nice things

I guess I woke up still sad about Pipi. But there are little things that have made me smile.

#1: I don't often buy presents for myself. I'll willingly spend all sorts of money on the people that I love, but often discount the idea of buying things for myself as "wasteful." This is, incidentally, a habit I acquired from my Mother. At any rate, when I got the promotion the other day, I decided to buy myself a very little something that I'd desperately been wanting. When I was at Antioch last month, my cell phone broke. I got a new phone when I got back to Pittsburgh, but I hated all the built in ring tones. So two days ago I bought something fabulous: The Sex and the City theme song as a ringtone. Unfortunately, the only version available for my phone was the hip hop remix, but hey -- when my dentist called me this morning, I still smiled when I heard the song.

#2: My Mother is the most fabulous woman ever. I was slogging through kitty litter and recycling, getting ready to schlep the trash downstairs before I got ready for work. The mail had already arrived, and, when I snatched it up on my way back upstairs, I saw a small beige envelope with her familiar handwriting on it. My Mother had sent me a card, an actual proper card, saying congratulations and wishing me luck in my new job. It's yet another reason to add to the already lengthy list of why my Mom kicks such serious ass.

She's going to give a lecture next week at a conference for Probation Officers. My little Jewish Mother is going to teach a lecture hall full of Probation Officers a thing or two. She's amazing. I adore her.

... and now that I've had a minute to read ...

Sounds like a neat idea, but I'm still stuck trying to figure out how to connect n0thingman's Zip drive to my broken-ass computer. Converting music from a CD to an mp3 to a LAME library sounds like it may be a bit over my head (even if I am technically a computer person now, thanks to my recent promotion).

Let me know when you've got your cell phone rigged up to play an Acronym original. :)

Sex in the City
Funny thing is, someone told me the ring tone I had in my phone (Cingular cheapo "go phone") was Sex in the City. I dunno, never having watched the show. Oh, well.

Re: Sex in the City
You have the ringtone I used to have, which was very similar, yet not quite the same as the Sex and the City theme song. Had that ringtone been available on my current phone, I would have been satisfied to just use that one again.
