Much going on

It's after midnight and I'm just arriving home. Tonight was another union meeting, this one attended by a number of people who were either opposed to or questioning the idea of joining the union. I, for one, thought it was a really good thing. It was a difficult meeting, to be sure, but in my mind, these are the people that we need to be speaking with. Nevertheless, I'm freaking exhausted now.

And then today I got the big news: on Thursday, I'll be having my interview for the promotion that I've been eyeing for, oh, close to a year now. From what I understand, competition is pretty stiff. I've been given a list of questions and told to ponder them, but, with my current schedule, finding a minute to do that hasn't been easy. A lot of it is computer-related stuff, and n0thingman talked with me for a while this evening and helped me think out loud about it. It was good.

Also on Thursday, immediately before my big interview, I'm having my much-anticipated raise review meeting. We all just got a raise a few weeks ago -- The Co-op raised the base pay for everyone, and gave all employees raises based on that -- so this has the potential to be my second raise in under a month (and hey -- if I get the promotion, that would be my third raise in record time).

It's all just a little overwhelming.

I've been running at full steam for a minute now -- with the union, with work, with Gayle, with everything -- and I intend to keep plugging along, full speed ahead. But sending happy job vibes my way wouldn't hurt either.

For now, my focus is sleep. Well, that, and the fact that tomorrow night after work I'll be getting together with _aqualung_ and Greg, a mutual friend from about twenty years ago. I probably haven't seen Greg since 1990, give or take a year or two. I can't fucking wait.

You *do* realize the Co-Op probably gave everyone a raise in order to scuttle the union right? That's one of the typical "carrot" tricks that employers do.

And the fact that they're having one-on-one meetings to discuss raise reviews...sounds like it has the potential for further chilling of union activity.

Well, I think the across-the-board raises have more to do with Pennsylvania raising the minimum wage than anything else -- The Co-op was going to have to raise the base pay anyway; why not do it six months early? I think the act itself was prompted by the minimum wage raise, but yes, the timing may have been union-related.

And as for the one-on-one raise reviews ... it's always been that way, or at least it's been that way for as long as I've been there.

Hrrm...maybe I'm being a bit paranoid =/

You guys should check if the raises seem to be associated with pro-anti-iffy union folks though.
