best of luck! i managed to quit a few months ago, but i still have trouble whenever i'm out with friends. Saturday i was at a bar in Andersonville with my friend Aldo, and very nearly bummed from strangers, but Aldo talked me down.

also, i would have been a lot less successful if three of my students hadn't decided to gang up on me and sternly demand, first thing every Monday and Wednesday morning, whether i'd smoked recently.

allies happen in the strangest places!

For me, that's where I remember always getting into trouble -- when I'd had a couple of months smoke-free and would somehow convince myself that one wouldn't hurt. And I'd have one and it would taste like shit and make me cough and give me a headache and I'd think "there, see, I've licked it -- I'm not addicted anymore," and then somehow within a week or two I'd be buying them by the pack again.

I've got to remember this time that, once I get it licked, I can't ever light up again. Ever.

I think, really, I need to become one of those horrible anti-smokers, one of those whiners who complain about someone smoking in the other section of the restaurant, or anywhere within my general airspace. It seems like the only way to really kick it is to join the other team.
