Well, today was my first day of training in Customer Service. At this particular moment I'm exhausted, so this probably won't be a Pulitzer Prize winning post, but I'll see what I can do about getting the central themes across.

For starters, I'm exhausted because I started work today at 9:00 in the morning, when usually I don't have to be in until 2:00 in the afternoon. This was twice as difficult as it should've been because, in case you didn't notice, the Steelers won the Super Bowl last night.

It's weird. I mean, as a general rule, I don't give a fuck about sports, nor could I even usually tell you what season it was (football? baseball? basketball?) without guessing. I was scheduled to work last night until 9:30, and my only real complaint about that was that I was afraid I'd be stuck fighting streets full of drunk drivers when I was trying to make my way home from work.

Well, the store ended up closing at 6:00 pm (due to lack of interest, er, I mean business), so I headed over to martinivixen and mistergone's place for their Super Bowl party. I missed kickoff, but only by about five minutes, so really I got to see the whole thing. It was great. I mean, I figured I'd be bored but actually, I got fairly caught up in what was going on.

In the end, I think my favorite moment was after the game had ended. I was outside with martinivixen and unixd0rk and a few others. We all got quiet for a moment and realized that we could hear the screaming and cheering out in the distance ... in Squirrel Hill? In Oakland? Who knows. But you could hear the whole city just erupting around us. It was kind of great.

As for Customer Service, well, I'm always kind of nervous when I start a new job, but after my first day of training, I'm mostly feeling like "hey -- I think I can do this," and that's pretty great too.

I didn't get out of work until around 9 even though we closed around 8. I worked a double (lunch and dinner), and the only redeeming factor was the 11-top for lunch (shared with my co-server) and a 7-top for dinner (the reason we didn't close) that was all mine. I made good money for a sunday tho.
