What shall I say about the ridiculousness that has been today?

Well, I think I should talk about the radio, actually.

At work, we have satellite radio. And somehow, someone discovered that they have a Halloween station. We have, of course, been listening to this station nonstop ever since. Some of the stuff is what you'd expect: "Boris the Spider," "Thriller," The Theme from "The X-Files" no less than twice on any given day. Some of the stuff makes no sense to anyone, like The B-52s "Rock Lobster" (um, is lobster a traditional animal associated with Halloween? Really?). And then there are those gems, those songs that you never thought you'd be fortunate enough to hear at work ...

Yes folks, today they played "The Time Warp."

By the end of it, momacress and I were standing at the front of the store, taking a jump to the left (and a step to the ri-i-i-i-i-ight). Coconut Joe was chiding us for being giant geeks, and we so did NOT care.

Because ladies and gentlemen, today at work I got to do the fucking Time Warp. It just doesn't get any better than that.

That is way cool.

I'm guessing you're getting Monster Mash and Purple People Eater til you're blue in the face, but neither Ministry's nor Siouxsie's Halloween.

Actually, I've heard neither "Purple People Eater" nor "Monster Mash." What I have heard (repeatedly) is Rob Zombie's "Dragula," and I've wondered aloud more than once if that's really appropriate shopping music. Then again, part of what's so great about this station is its bizarrely random choice of songs. "The Addams Family" Show Theme? Classical stuff? Rob Zombie? Seriously. I doubt Siouxsie Sioux is far behind.

yeah, but I thought I was the only one who ever heard of Jon Greenfield's Rock Band... Where on earth? How? Wow... Are they still around?

Re: jgr
John's an old friend of mine. No clue if his band is still together or not. Last I heard he was with a new group called "Illinois First!" though even that was a while ago.

Re: jgr
Sounds oddly like Sufjan Stevens, who is currently touring the US with a show celebrating Illinois... He is planning on doing all fifty states!

So, last I saw John Greenfield's Rock Band, we had set up a gig for him, and it fell through, and he had to play at our place... this is five years ago, at least.

Re: jgr
Ya, I'd say it was four or five years ago that John Greenfield's Rock Band played Pittsburgh (The Bloomfield Bridge Tavern). The band crashed here, in part because they had no working headlights and I lived about two blocks from the bar.

Re: jgr
I remember that show. I am pretty sure that we opened for them that night. We almost certainly got them the gig. Are you following any local rock bands now? What's the scene like? I am desperate for some Indie Rock Spies!

Re: jgr
By insulting him and not paying him... It was a long and complicated thing. He's very sensitive for someone who is such an unholy prick.
